COMMUNITY STORY CIRCLES
We are our stories and our stories have always mattered. Sharing them plays an integral role in shifting our culture, and story circles are a powerful way to make this happen. Story Circles are an intimate story sharing process that allows folx to connect and engage in dialogue around a variety of topics. We have taken this process a step further by curating story circles for Black folx around transformative, intimate topics such as love, family conflict, the Black wo/man identity, silenced stories in the Black community, disparities in the workforce, entrepreneurship, Black hair, body politics, colorism, wellness, and mental health.

Our community story circles take place in-person and virtually. Follow us @narrateBLK and subscribe to our newsletter below for more information.

Shenita was great in allowing us to talk. There were a few times when I wanted to jump in while other people were sharing but I remembered the ground rules she set. I think that's important. She laid them out in the very beginning. This would be very beneficial for leaders, an incoming fraternity class, or even somebody you've known for years because you don't really know somebody. We've been friends for almost 20 years and there are things that came out in this session that we never knew about each other. That's human nature. You're not going to share every single thing but this gave us the space to share and not be judged about it. The story prompts were great. This was a great opportunity. I would definitely do this again.

I liked everything about this. I came into it, open-minded. I didn't know what was going on.
I was just told that Shenita was going to lead a Zoom session about something but the structure kept me in line. The story prompts were thought-provoking. I think the prompts are the key part to this because you want someone to feel vulnerable around possible strangers and I think her prompts were really good. I also think this would be dope for couples. I would love to do this with my fraternity brothers again and possibly my significant other. I want to know how she would answer some of these prompts.
Ok, do I need to leave some Yelp stars because you get FIVE stars! When's the next one?

I think you did a phenomenal job. The prompts were very thought-provoking and I appreciated the norms that you set before we started. Even though I arrived late, you re-established them for me. I think it's very important that everyone follows the norms and you were great at ensuring we all followed them. As I was answering some of the prompts, it made me think of my significant other and how there are things we don't know about each other and could benefit from a space like this. In general, you just never know what people are dealing with internally or have dealt with in the past. You did a great job at making us feel safe to share and un-silence some of our stories. I'm ready for the next one.
